Introducing Lough Gill Brewery

Here at The Crafty Vintner, we all about showcasing the finest Irish craft beers. This month we are featuring some amazing brews from Lough Gill Brewery.

Founded in 2016, the guys restored the lost tradition of brewing in Sligo town that once was home to five breweries. They are an independent, family-run craft brewery situated close to the shores of Lough Gill on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. Their beer philosophy is to brew the best handcrafted beers using the best ingredients and where possible, to add some local indigenous ingredients to the brews. The company is also proud to boast one of Ireland's youngest commercial Brewers, Jordan Donnelly, and since taking on the Head Brewer role in 2018, he has experimented with different flavours and styles.

Check out some of their fantastic offerings below:

Our first choice is Shaka an East Coast Pale Ale brewed with Amarillo & Azacca. These hops add tropical aromas and an orange citrus flavour backed up with a mouthfeel that has been amped up with the addition of oats, and dextrin malts. 4.6 ABV.

Next up is Bån a limited release witbier, coming in at 5.2% ABV. Fermented with a traditional Belgian Yeast this Belgian style wheat beer is brewed with oats, malted wheat and raw wheat for a hazy "white" appearance. A refreshing beer with a full mouthfeel, it has been spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel for a distinct taste which works perfectly with this style of beer. This striking can artwork features the outline of Lough Gill, which gets its name from a translation of bright lake.

Coming in at 7.2% ABV Sink Or Swim is a West Coast IPA. It’s pleasantly aromatic with hints of pine and a great malt bitter finish. Dry-hopped with Idaho 7, Cascade, Columbus & Centennial.

Our final offering from Lough Gill is the wonderful Cutback. This hazy New England session IPA is light in body and pale in colour. Brewed with Comet, Azacca & El Dorado hops to just 4.5% ABV, Cutback tempts the senses with distinct tropical aromas and a fruity, hoppy flavour.
