Celebrated annually on the third Friday of September, we pay homage to Grenache, one of the most widely cultivated grape varieties across the globe. Predominantly found in the sun-soaked vineyards of southern France and Spain (where it's known as Garnacha), as well as the United States and Australia, Grenache thrives in warm, hot, dry conditions, allowing it to ripen to perfection.
It’s a versatile grape that has made its mark, not only in producing exquisite red wines, but also sparkling, white, rosé, and even fortified wines. Known for its rounded, fruity character, Grenache wines often possess spicy and herbal tones reminiscent of luscious raspberry and black cherry.
Old-vine Grenache, particularly from celebrated regions such as Priorat, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and McLaren Vale, produces some of the most concentrated and complex wines, perfectly suited for aging as well as drinking now.
To celebrate this exceptional varietal, we invite you to explore our curated selection of 100% Grenache wines, showcasing this remarkable grape.
One of my favourites is the Peter Lehmann Grenache from Barossa, this remarkable wine has aromas of fresh raspberries, cherries, and a hint of peppery spices. It’s beautifully balanced with a medium body, and soft tannins, matched with an intriguing complexity, perfect coming into autumn.
And to coincide with International Grenache Day we are holding a meet the winemaker event and dinner on September 25th with guest host Brett Scutz (Peter Lehmann Wines Senior Winemaker).
In today's ever changing wine market, discovering wines like these are a real treat, join us on the 25th of September to hear more about Grenache as well as the fabulous portfolio of wines from Peter Lehmann.
Let’s raise a glass to Grenache!
