Red Spot is a renowned Irish whiskey with a fascinating history rooted in the late 19th century. It all began at Mitchell & Son, a respected establishment situated on Dublin's iconic Grafton Street. The Mitchells, who were prominent importers of fortified wines such as port and sherry, found themselves in possession of a surplus of exceptional casks.
In the 1880s, they initiated a unique practice by sending these high-quality casks to the neighboring Bow Street distillery, which happened to be owned by the notable Mr. Jameson. These casks were specifically filled with freshly distilled spirit, setting the foundation for what would become the legendary Red Spot whiskey.
To distinguish between the various casks and identify the aging potential of each whiskey, the Mitchells ingeniously marked them with different coloured spots of paint. This simple yet effective method allowed them to carefully monitor and assess the maturation process of the spirits in their cellar. As well as being a helpful tool for everyone working in the distillery regardless of their reading abilities- genius!
Over the years, Red Spot gained recognition for its exceptional quality and distinctive character, becoming a symbol of craftsmanship and tradition in the world of Irish whiskey. Today, Red Spot continues to uphold its legacy as a premium whiskey that pays homage to its rich heritage and the innovative spirit of the Mitchells.
With its deep-rooted history and commitment to excellence, Red Spot stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Mitchells and their contribution to the world of fine spirits.
With only 516 bottles released this is going to become one 'red hot red spot'.
